Mr. Nathaniel Bryant, son of the late Mr. Romie Liston Bryant and Ms. Ella Mae Bryant, was born on November 12, 1947, in Ruffin, South Carolina. Nathaniel, affectionately known as “Swilly,” “Nay,” or “Nate,” accepted Christ and joined Hunters Chapel Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Pastor Norman Wilson. He received his education through the public school system and attended Ruffin High School in Ruffin, South Carolina.
As a teenager, Nathaniel worked as a combine harvester operator, spraying crops such as soybeans across large fields. He truly enjoyed this work, especially the opportunity to drive and ride high on the big tractors. In 1967, Nathaniel relocated to Trenton, New Jersey, where he continued his education and later gained employment at Trenton Psychiatric Hospital. He dedicated many years of faithful service there, working as a Human Services Technician until his retirement in 2000.
Nathaniel was highly appreciated by his coworkers and deeply loved by the patients he served. Nathaniel enjoyed life ’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing, playing cards with family and friends, and watching wrestling on television, which he often called his therapy. Most of all, he enjoyed his favorite meal—fried chicken, rice, and pork and beans on top. On Friday, January 23, 2026, Nathaniel Bryant transitioned peacefully to his eternal home at Helene Fuld Hospital in Trenton, New Jersey.
